The Arts in Galena

Paul Chase

Paul Chase is a local artist, living in JoDaviess County for 25 years while teaching art at the Area Vocational Center in Elizabeth. He is an internationally known artist, author, and guitarist. Paul is the founder and CEO of Graphicguitars Inc., fine art guitar paintings, prints and posters. He has illustrated several books, book covers, album covers, cd covers, t-shirts and his artwork has been published for distribution worldwide. Paul has a bachelor’s degree in Art and a master’s degree in Communication Graphics from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

He has taught art in high schools, vocational/technical school, and at the college level for over 30 years. Paul is a distant relative of the “other” famous American artist Georgia O’Keeffe (and they are both developed their art “roots” in hometown Sun Prairie, WI) and his large close up guitar images reflect her large close up flower series. He was guest artist/speaker at her 119th birthday celebration last November in Galena. Paul recently donated his original color pencil work “Tribute to Georgia O’Keeffe” to the growing Georgia O’Keeffe collection and museum in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

The artist’s landscape style has developed over the years, offering an innovative interpretation of local environment. A combination of reality and fantasy that demands our thoughts, yet offers a vision of a place we have seen—and where we can rest.
From his first illustrations on t-shirts as a child, Paul has experienced “graphic visions.” He has been involved in expressing his creative gift forever.
The style speaks for itself—innovative and fresh, vibrant and full of color—“graphic visions” will capture a place somewhere within those who pause to view and enjoy.
